A low loader trailer for transporting construction and agricultural machinery, industrial equipment or wind turbines needs to be manoeuvrable at all times due to its overall towing length. Self-steering axles from BPW can meet this challenge. With axle loads of 9 t to 12 t and steering angles of up to 27°, our self-steering axles can manoeuvre even the heaviest loads to their destination with ease. The LL indicates that this model has load-dependent steering stabilisation. Wave-shaped thrust washers and the tracking function are all that is required to keep the wheels in the lane when driving straight ahead, with due consideration for the load, and to steer the vehicle according to the radius of the bend when cornering. With the optional Active Reverse Control (ARC) auxiliary steering system from BPW, the self-steering axle can also be controlled automatically when reversing. By using different brake cylinder positions, it is possible to make optimal use of the often very limited installation space in the chassis area. The permissible ratio of rigid axles or positive steering axles to self-steering axles of 1:1 paves the way for versatile chassis solutions.

Extendable plateau semi-trailers have a particularly hard time negotiating bends. BPW offers the ideal solution for this with its positive steering axle. To cope with the normal road network, a steering system that affects all wheels individually is used, namely a positive steering system. In order to comply with legal regulations, positive steering systems are indispensable for certain vehicle configurations. With the BPW steering axle, axle spindle steering systems can be implemented mechanically or hydraulically. Different brake cylinder positions and steering arm designs as well as an optimal roll radius ensure that the installation space in the chassis area is used in the best possible way. The BPW running gear system comprising steering axle and suspension is customised to meet the customer's requirements.

Whenever a compact running gear is required to allow for the greatest possible design freedom for the chassis, BPW stub axles offer a space-saving and robust solution for low-loaders. In addition, these systems can be approved for axle loads of up to 12 t in various countries. A subsystem of air-suspended and hydraulically suspended single wheel suspensions, BPW stub axles are always optimised in terms of installation space and customised to the customer's running gear. They are also used in multi-link systems.

With BPW swing axles, modular vehicles can cope with any critical surface and challenging terrain. The highly flexible oscillating bearing compensates for uneven surfaces and thus always ensures optimum ground contact and thus greater safety for the driver and the load. With swing axles from the market leader BPW, you also benefit from reliable, maintenance-friendly and space-optimised technology from large-scale production. Swing axles offer a good compromise between minimum installation space requirements, very high lift requirements, high axle loads and large steering angles. Maximum steering angles require narrow track widths. With a track width of 454 mm, BPW swing axles are real space-savers.
